This a new kind of adventure for me as I have never considered building anything significant before, let alone a yacht that has been designed for off-shore sailing and potentially to cross oceans.
I had never sailed at all until 2013 when I decided to take part in the Clipper Race which started in London that year and ended back there 10 months later, covering nearly 40,000 miles in between. I learnt to love, respect, and hold in awe the beauty and might of our World’s Oceans. Somewhere along the way I also developed a few sailing skills thanks to our professional skipper and my amazing crew mates.
I have continued to sail since completing the race but have never owned a yacht. This has partly been due to cost and time but perhaps more importantly not being able to choose what type of sailing I wanted to do in the future. I believe the ClassGlobe 5.80 ticks a lot of potential boxes from close coastal pottering to full on Ocean crossing.
But why consider building a ClassGlobe 5.80? Well, its part of the adventure. Who knows where it may take me….
I wouldn’t normally create a public blog. However, it is an obligation as part of the build licence and serves a number of potential purposes such as passing on knowledge amongst builders and allowing the Class Organisers to monitor elements of build compliance. Might as well enjoy it!
